The Institute for Basic Science(IBS) announced the appointment of Sun-Chan Jeong, professor at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization(KEK), as the new director of the Rare Isotope Science Project(RISP) on Thursday, January 22, 2015.
Sun-Chan Jeong, the new RISP director, has received a B.S. and M.S. in physics from Seoul National University, and a Ph.D. in physics from University of Tsukuba.
Dr. Jeong served as a professor at the Department of Physics at Soongsil University from 1992 to 1994, and High Energy Accelerator Research Organization from 1997.
Furthermore, over 30 years of expertise in nuclear physics experiments, he participated in constructing, commissioning, and operating rare isotope accelerator in Japan.
In particular, he has been involved in establishing the Baseline Design Summary of RISP as well.
“Based on the wide range of experiences of Director Jeong, I anticipate his significant contributions to the successful establishment of the rare isotope accelerator in Korea,” says Doochul Kim, the president of IBS.
